The Role:

The Human Resources Manager’s purpose is to maximize the potential of Cosmic Bliss’ most important resource, it’s people.  This role supports the success of each individual, while driving the success of the company.  This role is multi-faceted and requires a dynamic individual who can relate to all kinds of people, oversee people & culture best practices, and take initiative on critical tasks and projects.  The HR Manager is responsible for building a scalable foundation in our retail channel as well as continuously improving existing practices for our core team, continuing Cosmic Bliss’ legacy as a workplace of choice. 

The HR Manager holds responsibility for developing, directing and implementing company policy and procedures as it relates to employment, compensation, benefits, personnel relations and training.  They work in collaboration with other leaders at the company to foster the desired company culture – high engagement, continuous development and stellar performance.  Ideal candidates care deeply about people and planet, are very self-driven and excited to make contributions in a scale-up environment.

  • Education and Experience
    1. A Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent of five years of experience in the Human Relations field. PHR or SPHR Certification and five to ten years of Human Relations work may be substituted for degree.
    2. Minimum of three years of experience developing skills of people managers, preferably in a progressive company culture utilizing methods such as strengths-based leadership and lean manufacturing; certification as Gallup Strengths Coach is helpful or prior experience with Predictive Index and other tools to increase team awareness.
    3. Experience building HR frameworks required, helpful if within retail food, restaurant or hospitality industry
    4. Must be familiar with state and federal regulations and laws pertaining to employment practices, required training courses, payroll laws and workers compensation regulations.
  • Research & Communication Skills – Ability to read, analyze, and interpret journals and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquires and/or complaints from regulatory agencies, and employees. Able to represent the company in a professional manner within the community.
  • Problem Solving – Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Able to deal with a variety of problems involving human nature.
  • Organizational – Excellent attention to detail, able to establish and maintain effective organizational systems, to set priorities that reflect importance of job responsibilities and to track many things simultaneously and see them through to completion; excellent time-management skills
  • Mathematical Skills – Ability to calculate basic math functions, statistics interpretation and data analysis.
  • Technical Skills
    1. Proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Teams, intermediate+ in Excel.
    2. Proficient with or ability to master additional platforms and software utilized by the Company (BambooHR, Asana, etc.); Prior experience with Greenhouse is helpful
    3. Able to operate general office machinery.
  • Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand and talk and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision Requirements – Specific visions abilities required include close vision of up to 20 inches or less.
  • Work Environment
    1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near food, a variety of ingredients around/in a sanitary environment and may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne food particles.
    2. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
    3. Must maintain a safe workplace at home, e.g., free of trip hazards.
  • Schedule is generally 50 hours/week, primarily during business hours; occasional weekend work is required.
  • Travel
    1. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is strongly preferred for occasional travel within Oregon.
    2. Overnight travel approximately five times/year for education and visits to retail location, via auto/air.

  • Leadership
    1. Interacts with all levels of Cosmic Bliss, upholding and supporting the companies’ core values and culture.
    2. Makes meaningful contributions to strategic planning and budgeting processes.
    3. Ensure policies, procedures and HR programs are consistently administered, and in compliance.
  • Systems Development & Kaizen
    1. Develops systems, policies and procedures to create effective, compliant and scalable structure for people management in Retail Division.
    2. Recommends and implements process improvements within the People function.
  • Recruiting, Onboarding & Terminations
  • Culture & Engagement
    1. Champions a culture of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.
    2. Measures and reports on employee engagement and implements strategies to improve engagement levels.
  • Personnel Development
    1. Develops, sources, and implements regular training programs.
    2. Coordinates performance assessment process. Trains managers to provide meaningful feedback.
  • Compliance – Federal, Oregon and growing number of additional state employment laws.
  • Total Compensation & Leave Administration
    1. Reviews payroll reports and provides Accounting with information and guidance.
    2. Acts as the liaison with all benefit insurance carriers(s), medical, dental, voluntary benefits, 401(k), etc.
    3. Processes and tracks any employee time off and leaves of absence.
    4. Establishes annual compensation budget.
    5. Maintains PayScale database and collects additional market data to inform compensation decisions.
  • Committee Service – Safety Committee and Green Team.
  • Employee Relations – Provides counsel and guidance with employee performance issues.
  • Technical
    1. HRIS/BambooHR – maintains current and accurate data in company HRIS.
    2. Recognition App/Preciate – administrates app, managing users and training staff.
